A quick update from me, as Treena is returning from the haerenga to Jerusalem. Visit the Facebook page to see the photos.
Who has spotted Matariki? They say the best time to view Matariki is between 5:30-6:30am, just before dawn. If you look towards the north east, towards the horizon, Puanga will rise first, and then the star cluster of Matariki. Spend some time on Friday with whanau and enjoy the Matariki celebrations in your rohe.
A quick reminder that Amorangi Whaiti is scheduled for Saturday 22 July, and will be held in the Rose Room at Lawson Field Theatre, 7 Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne.

Lambeth Awards Recipient: Ven. Dr Hirini Kaa

The Archbishop of Canterbury makes specific awards each year recognizing the outstanding achievements across various fields, including services to the church, prayer and religious life, reconciliation and interfaith cooperation, evangelism and witness, education and scholarship, worship and community service.
We are pleased to share that Venerable Dr Hirini Kaa was a recipient of the Lanfranc Award for Education and Scholarship, at an awards ceremony held at Lambeth Palace last month.
For outstanding service as a Church Historian and Theological Educator and for outstanding scholarship in the research and plublication of the award-winning book Te Hahi Mihinare - The Maori Anglican Church.
The awards ceremony was followed by evening prayer in the Archbishop’s Chapel at Lambeth Palace, where the recipients and all those who gathered prayed for those works, that their examples may be an inspiration to others who hear them.

Nga Tapuwae a Ihu: Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
A trip to Israel will be an experience our whanau will never forget. Our ropu from Te Tairawhiti joined with Bishop Richard Wallace and a ropu from Te Waipounamu, to walk in the footsteps of Christ, exploring ancient sites and the natural wonders of the land, all while learning about the beginnings of our Christian faith. They visited the Sea of Galilee, the banks of the Jordan River, the Room of the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and many more of the most holiest of places.
Although they remained safe throughout their haerenga, walking through taone like Hiruhārama, and Peterehema revealed the intricacies of coexistence for Iharaira and Parihitini, alongside major faith traditions, in Te Whenua Tapu as well as the visible divisions and tensions.
HE PANUI AITUA
The Reverend Fred McRoberts passed away in Brisbane on 14 June. He returned home and was laid to rest at Waihua urupa.
Following the passing of ministers like Rev Pona Reedy, Rev Joe Henry, Rev Canon Mita Ngatai, Rev. Fred took up ministry to help carry the load.
As Chaans recalls, “Uncle Fred was a kaumatua and Chairperson of both Putahi and Waihua Marae’ for many years. He was involved with the establishment of the Kahungunu Executive, a staunch supporter of the Maori Women’s Welfare League, committee member of numerous Maori land corporations and in his time Chairperson of both the Wairoa Mohaka Pastorate and Kahungunu Rohe committees to name a few.”

Te Rau College are hosting a number of Rumaki Karakia, an immersive wānanga experience for candidates for the Te Rau College ministry formation and training programme as they discern and prepare for commissioning as Kaikarakia or ordination into the Holy Orders.
This year, each wānanga revolves around a distinct theme:
Karakia o te Ata, o te Pō – Morning and Evening Prayer.
Tangihana & Hura Kōhatu – Funerals and Unveilings.
Tikanga Karakia mō Te Kaihapa – Eucharistic Services "476."
