Ordinands this year have come through a new process where we are beginning to work more closely with a Bishop’s Advisory Panel overseeing their discernment. The Panel met twice with the pool of postulants or potential ordinands – the first time at a retreat earlier in the year as part of the discernment process, & then in September for formal interviews.

Alongside this, training in manual acts & the Tairawhiti customary as well as instruction on the ministry of deacons and priests has continued over the course of the year.

Formal interviews by the panel were the basis for final recommendations to the bishop on each postulant’s readiness for ordination. We congratulate the 11 ordinands accepted in 2018 & the 7 kaikarakia whose nominations by various of our pariha & rohe were accepted as well.

A bus will be leaving at 7:30AM on 1 Dec for the Ordination Karakia. Seats can be booked through the office. Numbers limited. First in, first served.

Over 125 wahine from across Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa and Maori missions in Te Whenua Moemoea gathered in the Bay of Islands for the biennial Kahui Wahine Conference hosted by Te Taitokerau.

This included a full complement from Te Tairawhiti with many of our own making the long trek north over a couple of days to be there for the hui beginning 13 September, and finishing on the 16th.

The pohiri at Otiria Marae also served to welcome the Bishop of Te Tairawhiti and Bishop of Aotearoa, Most Rev Don Tamihere, and his wife, Kisa, to Te Taitokerau as well, as both had travelled to tautoko Te Tairawhiti and the overall hui.
